The problem

Industrial-era depletion of whales and other large marine life weakened the living pumps that recycle nutrients into the sunlit ocean. Fisheries pressure and simplified food webs compound the loss. Chemistry alone does not restore what biology used to move.

Our thesis

The biological carbon pump can move far more carbon than markets can currently prove. We are convinced the sink can be large. We still lead with ecological restoration — and treat carbon as a scientific hypothesis until published MRV earns any commercial claim.

    Permitted restoration and research studies with clear gates: lab → mesocosm → field.

  • Ligand & bioavailability

    Methods and IP for keeping nutrients — especially iron — where phytoplankton can use them.

  • MRV & expedition data

    MRV + expedition research-ops: measurement software and calibrated research-ops kits we’re building (interlocks, telemetry, audit logs) — research tooling, not a fertilisation service we ship today.

  • Licensed methods

    Packaged SOPs and monitoring approaches for partners — ecology metrics first.

Field nutrient release, when it happens, is permitted research or restoration only — never a commercial ocean-fertilisation service.

How we work

  1. Restoration outcomes first — nutrient flux, community response, no HAB/hypoxia harm, social licence.
  2. Staged science — instrumented and audit-ready, with gated stages and clear stop criteria; Gigablue-style MMRV discipline without credit-first GTM.
  3. Partners — complementary research lane with Positive Polar (positivepolar.com) and whalebiomimicry.bio — not a signed MoU or joint venture; Ocean Flux stays a distinct entity.
  4. Carbon later — pursue measurement aggressively; monetise only after export, fate, and additionality are published.
